Simple Southern Fried Shrimp are so darn good you will think you are eating at your favorite seafood restaurant! They are THAT good. Crispy, golden goodness.

This looks so easy - Simple Southern Fried Shrimp

Simple Southern Fried Shrimp

Shrimp is my absolute favorite seafood dish! Growing up, my family would spend a week on the Gulf of Mexico each summer. Our favorite spots were Gulf Shores and Destin.  As a north Alabamian, going to the beach meant a six hour drive each way. We would eat out in the evenings, and my order also centered around….fried shrimp!

I never knew that I would end up living in Florida and raising a family here. Nowadays, the beach is an hour away and seafood is abundant year round. Look at these shrimp – golden brown, crispy and ready for your plate!

Take it to The Tailgate Pro Tip:

These babies are good on their own or with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. But, they can go to the next level with Special Sriracha Sauce a.k.a. Boom Boom Sauce! Just sayin’.

These look so good! Simple Southern Fried Shrimp
Frozen shrimp are the BEST. I use them for Simple Southern Fried Shrimp!

This recipe for Simple Southern Fried Shrimp is the real deal. I’ve made it with fresh shrimp & frozen shrimp – both work really well. Here’s a picture of the frozen shrimp I purchased at Wal-Mart; it was under $10. I also use them Summer Shrimp Skewers and Sriracha Shrimp Taco Bites. Yep, I truly love SHRIMP!I can’t take full credit for Simple Southern Fried Shrimp, I adapted it from one of Paula Deen’s oldie but goodies! I love to serve Southern Hushpuppies and a fresh green salad with them to round out the meal.

Whip these up for a hot appetizer at your next tailgate! The ingredients are so basic, it’s crazy.

Simple Southern Shrimp: Your Players on the Field

Shrimp, flour, cornmeal, whole milk, buttermilk, and seasonings are you main players. Hot peanut oil seals the deal. How much easier could this be? Easier than going to a restaurant, spending gobs of money on a basket of fried shrimp only to realize once they are placed in front of you that they were once pre-breaded and frozen. Yuck! That’s never, ever happened to me of course. No, never. 🙂

Once you prep the shrimp, they fry up in about 3-5 minutes. You will need a pot with large sides or this deep fryer like we use to fry them.  A  $6 metal strainer spoon makes removing the shrimp a cinch!

Simple Southern Fried Shrimp makes a fun appetizer tray when teamed up with Southern Hushpuppies. We had a Netflix night, and the picture below was taken from our coffee table! 🙂

YUM! Simple Southern Fried Shrimp!
